Hi i'm new to the polo world, i've just got myself a VW polo 1.4 SE 59 plate i believe its a R6 version (what ever that means) i've got lots of questions if anyone can help
1. I've got the standard MFD which only displays the outside temp trip distance and fuel, can i upgraded this to a better version ?
2. I have a RNS 510 sat nav is this a straight fit into the polo ? i got it from a VW Golf ?
3. I need new brakes and discs but i have no idea what size discs i have ? also is there a guide to changing them ?
4. The car has 15in alloys can i get larger alloys as the car feels unstable on the 185/60/15 tyres ?
5. Whats VCDS cable do i need ? i've tried a VCDS cable from a GOLF mk5 but it seems incompatible and won't bring any data up ?
6. The heating system says Climatic on the temp dial but i have no idea how you activate it ? I thought there would be a AUTO or climatic button there is just a AC button ?
7. There is a strange noise coming from the passengers air vent it all works fine but makes a noise when its on or off ?
Any help would be great thanks.

hello and welcome
1. I've got the standard MFD which only displays the outside temp trip distance and fuel, can i upgraded this to a better version ?
--> yes, you could install the instrument cluster from a Polo GTI, GT or WRC but it's not an easy swap since it requires programming the immobiliser.
2. I have a RNS 510 sat nav is this a straight fit into the polo ? i got it from a VW Golf ?
--> if your Polo is a Polo 6R (2009-2014), then yes. remember, you'll need to add a GPS antenna and a second FM antenna sometimes
3. I need new brakes and discs but i have no idea what size discs i have ? also is there a guide to changing them ?
--> I don't even know what car you have, so difficult to say.
4. The car has 15in alloys can i get larger alloys as the car feels unstable on the 185/60/15 tyres ?
--> yes, anything up to 18 inch is available but check your tire pressures first
5. Whats VCDS cable do i need ? i've tried a VCDS cable from a GOLF mk5 but it seems incompatible and won't bring any data up ?
--> a HEX V2 enthousiast will work just fine. a cheaper alternative could be OBD11 or carista
6. The heating system says Climatic on the temp dial but i have no idea how you activate it ? I thought there would be a AUTO or climatic button there is just a AC button ?
--> you have climatic, semi automatic air conditioning. climatronic is one step up, but it's not an easy swap.
7. There is a strange noise coming from the passengers air vent it all works fine but makes a noise when its on or off ?
--> check your fuel lines in the engine compartment. it's just next to the master brake cylinder.
Any help would be great thanks.
--> the best help we can offer if you introduce your car properly.

Welcome lee005
To make work your Climatic you must
read the fine user manual.

However if you don't do it because you're another enemy of reading or from user manuals, press the AC button and select a ventilation speed. Your Climatic will start working
automatically.

Thanks for all the help

my car is a VW polo 1.4 SE 6R 2009 DSG if that helps with the brake disc size (they look rusty round the edges) i've booked it in for a cambelt and water pump change, its had a full service history but no cambelt change even though there is 70000 on the clock.

what about some pictures?
brake size is very likely to be 256x22mm ventilated rotors at the front and 230x9 solid rotors at the rear

A very good plan wrt the cam belt, maybe include a new water pump while you are at it as when the cam belt is removed, the water pump probably only takes 15 minutes to replace and new would get new G13 coolant in there as well.
VW Group either do or did exchange water pumps which keeps the cost down, water pump impellors have been known to split of come off the spindle so when the mechanic is so close, it really makes no sense to not replace it, one less thing to go wrong.
Front brakes, yes, well not too easy to upgrade them, though not impossible, on these cars the front hub assembly carrier is also the brake calliper mounting bracket, so, you would need to replace both hub carriers probably with hubs, if you are going to replace the brakes with the 288mm versions and then buy new callipers and carriers and obviously discs and pads.

if you don't like your ride quality and it has 70k miles, it's worth checking out the shock absorbers as well.

no you don't need the sensors.
