How can I 'Do Up' my 6n2?

Hey,
So my missus 6n2 has finally given way and I want to start a project. I have no mechanical experience but using this car as a dummy run so that if it does go t**s up, nothings lost!
I've always wanted to 'do up' a car since I was a kid and now i'm a bit older and have a bit of cash to throw at it I don't mind!
So my car is 3dr 6n2 Y reg in black with a small spoiler (not sure if thats standard). The first thing I really need to do is tidy it up, the offside rear panel has a massive gaping scratch (where a van went into it many years ago) and there is some signs of rust. Ideally I need to get this fixed / replaced but no idea where to start?
After that i'd like to get a body trim (open to offers please!) and then potentially get some decent alloys. Probably willing to chuck £500 at this car on parts in the coming months.
Any suggestions please fellas
Would love to get into this sorta club.
