I just bought a Bosch replacement for the original battery on my daughter's late 2009 SEAT Ibiza 1.4 16v

Below is notes I made at that time, though I bought it from Costco as I am a member - or wife is!

Battery is 280A DIN 480A EN 60Ah) (orig EXIDE ES 5K0 915 105D) Height 194mm/170mm Length 240mm/235mm Width 175mm/165mm S405 also S504 or better S505 known as Halfords HSB0139?) ECP S5005 027

S4005 was the Bosch coding for that battery as bought at Costco.

Edit:- While I've suggested the S5005 frame size 027 from ECP, I only bought the slightly cheaper S4005 as I don't think that my daughter will be keeping that car for more than 4 years.

Another Edit:- presently ECP is suggesting S5002 so maybe the default size or range has changed! (same size listed for your 2010 1.4 Polo and the 2009 1.4 Ibiza by the way)

No, that one is a monster, it is for the TDI engines I'd guess, I can't work out why I logged that size as it is a 540Amp 60amp hour battery, though it would last longer as it is a higher cold cranking current one.

Edit:- I think that I'll rethink what I wrote and say, "yes" as that one is nearer the original battery in capacity.

From ECP £84.59 with current discount code.

I just checked the connection layout and i think i would have difficulty with the bosch one, as he terminals are the wrong way round and due to the terminal wire locations i don't think they would stretch......

or i could be looking at a generic picture !!

Right, sorry for handing out what I thought was good advice, luckily you checked, as I would have done before buying, that is not good as it means that ECP can not be trusted, normally I'd expect a "sizes" of battery to be offered, the same as fitted and a slightly bigger alternative - clearly that is not what ECP are showing! Not the first time that ECP have offered the wrong parts it seems!

Go to the Bosch website and see what model is equivalent to your original, probably Exide battery model. The reason that I bought a battery from Costco was it was a lot cheaper though sometimes Costco carries a "short" or "compressed" range and not the complete range to suit individual cars. I would have gone for one that is the correct frame size, same as or higher CCA and same as or higher amp hours and obviously the terminal in the correct configuration, and at that time that pointed me to S4005 or S5005.

Edit:- in reply to your comment "could be a generic picture" if I were you I would check that up on either the Bosch website and/or a battery supplier website.

Maybe you need a minimum number of posts - reply to this one and see if it is 10!

Oh, I've got something right, that is okay!

Anyway, to the OP, while I was willing to consider that ECP had offered a battery with the terminals the wrong way round, or at least their picture might have shown, I've looked again and I think that the pictures are okay.

If you consider that the battery is fitted into the car with the terminal posts at the rear, the -VE earth lead needs to be on the RHS looking in from the front and the +VE terminal on the LHS, all these battery pictures show the batteries with the terminal posts at the "front side" so that you can see which version or terminal orientation they are. So I think that 027 frame size would be okay if that is the CCA and Amp Hour version you want to buy.

The issue with buying from ECP, if that is one of the vendors you are considering is, this present discount code runs out at midnight and while there will be another one, as there always is, this discount code looks like being the best for a few weeks/months - and in case you don't know this always always order on line as that is the only way that you will get the full discount that is going at any time. I made that mistake once although I should not have as I thought that I knew better, and paid too much for brake cleaner, not that much too much, but it could have been avoided if my brain had been switched on!

Edit:- Yuasa batteries sound to me like they should be good batteries, well they work okay for Mat Neal, but the word is that Halfords seems to be getting quite a few back for replacement - now I don't think that is good enough, I've always bought a battery of good quality rather than buying a battery with a good quality warranty as that will not work when you can't start the car!

I'd be aiming to get a 60amp hour minimum regardless of what the present VW Group suggestion is, seriously I can't see a cheap car company like SEAT fitting a bigger than needed battery to an equivalent late 2009, ie 2010 model year Ibiza with the same 1.4 16V 85/86PS petrol engine and similar extra electrical consumers.

Has that car still got its original battery in it, if so what is the VW Group part number on that battery and if possible what is the battery brand and model?

Edit:- and unless I'm completely back to being wrong/confused, that is where the 027 frame batteries come into the equation, in the case of Bosch S4005.
