Brake lights

Hi. I believed I had a non working reversing light on my 2013 polo match. As it was not an MOT problem I have ignored it until recently. As the new (uk) MOT test examines reversing lights, I now believe I have only one reversing light on the left side. Is this correct and will it be legal in the UK? (I read that only “some”euro models have just one reverse light).

As with most - if not all current and recent VW models, 6r / 6c Polos for the UK market have one reversing light on the nearside.

Without checking my wife's car, I'd think that is correct, the "near side" is always the reversing light and the "off side" is always the rear fog light where there is no separate space given to reversing lights - and for safety, it is considered correct to only have a rear fog light on the "off side" as in extreme conditions with an extremely stupid driver behind you, if you had a rear fog light on each side and the "off side" bulb failed, there is the remote chance that the stupid driver behind you could drive into your "off side" mistaking it for a space!!

We each have our own way of viewing this logic, but I think that is the reason why only one rear fog light is wired up on cars that have a space for one on either side.
