Hi whenever i open the polo 9n3 2007 via turning the key, the boot is still closed and requires me to put the key in and turn to actually open it, is the boot mechanism faulty? any help would be appreciated

Have you made sure that you have left the lock on the hatch in the correct position, I seem to remember that you could exclude the boot lock from unlocking with the rest of the car, by turning the key in the boot thro maybe 90 degrees.
