My car has recently started showing a flashing coil light on the dashboard - This one here to be exact - http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/warn ... ement-lamp

It has been coming on and off regular for the past 2 weeks and I have noticed my engine tone sounds different like a heavier noise especially on the motorway. In terms of power and everything else it drives fine it's literally just the difference in noise and the flashing light. I have my car booked in on wednesday but I was wondering if anyone had any idea of what the issue could possibly be? I have a 2010 1.6 TDI.

Could be anything, to be honest. I'd take it to a shop and have it diagnosed. Could be anything from a simple failed sensor to a defective turbo or EGR.

Thanks for your reply! Yeh it's booked for wednesday. Hopefully it's nothing too major. If it's just a sensor would that still cause the engine noise to change slightly?

Yes, if the engine goes into limp mode the tone will be a bit less smooth.
