Bluetooth Radio Phone Connection FAIL!

Hey everyone, new to the forum so a huge thanks in advance for any help 
I've had my polo (2014 R Line) for around 6 months now and have never managed to connect my iPhone through the bluetooth system.
I can get as far as having my music playing on my phone, playing through the bluetooth small screen/handsfree device thing on my dashboard (moving the song along second by second in sync with the phone) but cannot seem to get the music to go from the bluetooth to the radio itself so no sound plays.
I've gone through the menu in the radio ensuring bluetooth connectivity is on... It almost feels like when I press the media button on the dash (which presents me with the CD or Aux options) there should be a bluetooth option but there isn't one!
If anyone could be of help it'd be hugely appreciated - the aux just isn't cutting it!
