2011 Polo - CarPlay install - Help would be really appreciated

Hi all, thankfully just came across this forum and hoping someone may have a spare moment or two to give some help.

I’m trying to fit an SPH-DA120 into a 2011 VW Polo. Early disclaimer, I am really not very well versed on the terminology for this. I used to have this unit installed in a Megane and it was a simple case of plug and play, not so much this time.

I have bought a standard ISO converter for the harness on the polo and connected it up to the stereo. I wasn’t getting any luck in it powering on.

The only progress I was able to make was to connect both the yellow and the red wires from the ISO harness onto both, side by side, Red/Yellow wires on the cars wiring. I’ve tried to illustrate this (albeit poorly) on the photo.

The only thing this has done though is power the unit on, but permanently.

If you look closely at the photo there are an additional two green/orange cables also side by side but they appear to be more to do with dimming the unit.

I’m beginning to think I haven’t got all the wiring I need.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I’ve run out of daylight but hope to get stuck back in tomorrow afternoon with any possible help you guys here can provide.

Allright so bear with me.
We're talking about this badboy, yes? https://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/sph-da120

Manual --> https://catalogs.pioneer-car.eu/Manuals ... etPDF.ashx
(have you read it??)

Let's have a look at page 8, connecting the power wires.
The quadlock you have, only has the so called permanent plus. That's the yellow one. You can take this from your quadlock.
I suppose you need the "electric terminal connected to ignition switch' from somewhere.

The closest location to take it from is from the AC panel, take the white/black or blue/black (depending on year etc) wire in position 14 of the 16-pin connector.
You'll need to somehow connect the red wire to this in a safe way (i.e. soldering, crimping).

Then have a further look at how all the wires are to be connected.
Orange white = connect to i.e. a blue/grey wire of the buttons above the radio
Black = connect to brown wires in quadlock
Speaker wires = connect to speaker wires in quadlock, i.e. with your adapter
Yellow black = leave disconnected I guess
Blue/white = connect to your antenna amplifier, if fitted
Light green = connect to black wire (GND)
Violet/white = disconnect until you fit RVC

As soon as you connected this and read the instructions manual thoroughly, try the radio for function and report back.

Thank you for taking the time to reply with this helpful info. Ill get reading into it.

Quick question though, to avoid soldering etc, is there a different harness you know of that I could purchase instead to do this 'plug and play' ?

No, I don't think there is a plug and play option. Don't worry, it's only a few wires.

I came across this video > https://youtu.be/UBUfX4auA0c

Is this essentially what I need to do? The harness on the 'car' side is the exact same as the one in the Polo I'm working on.

chilcake, you wont be able to do it, until you actually start doing it :) stop watching youtube videos and just wire those looms.
I used to be like you, and it seems there's no plug and play solution. DIY is a lot more fun and takes a bit more time, at first, but then, you will be very proud of yourself :D
