New to this forum and i'm hoping you may be able to help me!

Late ish last year I bought a 2009 Polo (1.6 TDI) and it has run really well. Until last week. It was making a load blowing sound, took it to my local garage (not a vw one, live in a remote area of Scotland) He has determined that it is the exhaust flex/flexi pipe has broken and is causing this. After looking around I have found some replacement ones but seem to be different sizes and diameters and i am not sure which one to get.

I was wondering if anyone knows what one i might need so I can try and get one ahead of time.

You really need to get under the car and accurately measure the pipe external diameter at each end just after the flexi section, then measure the length of only the flexi section, then measure the overall length of the original flexi section including its tails.
With that info look up a place like senioraftermarket as they are suppliers to exhaust manufacturers, slab select the correct version for the position within the exhaust, which normally means the hottest version.

Now, my experiences about this job, I located a proper exhaust fabricator and booked a time in with them, they just picked what was easiest to get hold off and fit, and that meant fitting one of too big a bore and too short a flexi section, that meant the exhaust resonated and as a bonus hit the underside of the car when reversing up my driveway, I took it back “nothing wrong and we know what we talking about!”, so I bought the correct item in from Senioraftermarket and got these experts to fit it, then the car was as good as new “it will not change anything” they said, they were wrong!
