BlueGT windscreen washer pump/motor under warranty?

Hello , I have a 2016 BlueGT which I got on PCP from local VW dealer in November last year. 12 months warranty was included with the VW finance deal. Recently the windscreen washer has stopped working. The usual motor sound cannot be heard and I had a local garage check the fuses but they were all fine. I`m guessing this is therefore some type of mechanical fault. I emailed nearest vw retailer and asked if I booked the car in would the repair be covered under the warranty.
However, the reply received was rather vague - see below.
"We would have to book the vehicle in and check the fault, at the point of booking we cannot confirm it will be covered by warranty, therefore the diagnostic fee of £114 would be quoted. Once checked by a technician we would then be able to confirm whether its warranty or not".
My concern is I could end up getting charged £114 plus vat plus parts plus labour for what might be a relatively minor fault if vw decide its not covered under warranty. In this case I might be better having a mate who knows a bit about car maintenance fix it instead. This option might though invalidate the warranty in the future?
I did a search on this forum for similar posts but anything possibly related I could see was from a number of years back.
Any advice appreciated.
