Does it really do all that, or is it just an unconfirmed 'conspiracy theory'?alexperkins wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2019 3:04 pm Its ultimately a data harvesting tool also, so they can track your speed, your ECU, a remap, your location - all very valuable!
Blimey, so glad I unplugged it!alexperkins wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2019 3:31 pm It does, it tracks everything. Apparently the data is for internal use, but equally, it captures alot.

If it's true, I'm glad I unplugged it.![]()
I wouldn't want how I drive my car to affect any warranty claims in comparison with someone who doesn't use one.
Yes, it does track and capture all of this data. So, by using the data plug, you’re giving VW lots of information on how and where you use your car. Big brother is watching you.............although no doubt VW would say that understanding how owners use their vehicles helps them in the development of new models.alexperkins wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2019 3:31 pm It does, it tracks everything. In the Nissan Leaf, permission for the telematics to send info to Nissan is required every time you start the car.SRGTD wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2019 3:51 pm I don’t have a data plug and have no desire to have one; this also seems to be the general consensus of forum members on one of the Golf forums. I assume that with future new VW models, the choice will be taken away from the car owner and this data capture will be automatic, although presumably the owner’s consent would need to be obtained.
You get nothing for nothing. Data plug, Facebook etc. If you're not paying for it, you are the product.alexperkins wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2019 3:04 pm Its ultimately a data harvesting tool also, so they can track your speed, your ECU, a remap, your location - all very valuable!
I don't think it saw you swapping out your bulbs...or did it?Andy Beats wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2019 3:27 pmDoes it really do all that, or is it just an unconfirmed 'conspiracy theory'?alexperkins wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2019 3:04 pm Its ultimately a data harvesting tool also, so they can track your speed, your ECU, a remap, your location - all very valuable!

If you want one you can have mine - had it for nearly 3 years but never used! Find VCDS much more usefulcoastline88 wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2019 12:48 pm Does the data plug (connect) come as standard on SE?
