Nope it's an optional extra, not many order it because of Android Auto\Apple CarPlay.

When I ordered mine with app connect and navigation they looked at me like Iam idiot 
and I will honestly need to agree that i used navigation like 3 times and android auto every day

Yes - you probably right.
I am using waze/google maps through apple car play and also Sygic.

Here in Portugal navigation is standard equipment in all Polo GTI.
This will be my first car with android auto/car Play for this reason I believe that navigation if it was not part of the standard equipment would not buy it.

And that is the reason why I got both: navi and apple car-play.
Who can tell me, what happens when you want to play music from youtube and have navigation through apple car play? Can you do both at the same time?
Normally, if you listen to youtube and switch over to maps, youtube switches off. What happens when the phone is connected to car-play?

Everyone with rooted android can use all apps in android auto 
mx player and youtube worked fine while I used it
