Installing Remote Locking

Post by OwenNorton »

Hi, I have a 2012 VW Polo 6R, and it comes with central locking via key, but just not remote locking. I have bought a kit from eBay that I am looking to install, but from spending a couple hours reading forums, everybody seems to say something different about this car.

From what I can understand, I have to connect this kit to the central locking pump, which is located behind the rear lights at the right, but I need to install some kind of resistor too.

It all seems a bit confusing with everyone saying something different, can somebody possibly walk me though / provide a wiring diagram or photo here directly instead of linking me to a different forum post. Trust me, I've read them all already haha.

That is either a poor translation or that kit covers cars including ones with air powered locking. VW Group has not used that system for many many years, the central locking is electrical.

Keep searching as I'm sure that others have wanted/tried to convert standard central locking to remote central locking on these Polos including earlier versions.

I also have a 2011 polo 6r and am thinking of doing the same with an Rclick kit or the one from ebay. I would be grateful if you posted instructions on this thread so I can refer back to it! :)

kit off eBay has just arrived, the remote seems to be high quality, and looks nice too. Looks a bit like a clone of the Audi keys, much nicer than most of the kits online. If I manage to get it all working I'd definitely recommend that one!

Ok so it’s the same as the rclick guide in the DIY section. 180ohm resistor but the wire colour is different. I’m double checking my notes and will come back to you

VW Polo Mk V remote central locking unit instructions.

Remove boot release handle (unclip on side).
Remove screw and driver’s side kick panel, on right below steering wheel.
Locate wiring loom coming from door.
(Thin) blue wire = central locking control. (Green/yellow wire prior to May 2011).
Negative trigger. Pull this directly to ground to lock or via 180 Ohms to ground to unlock. Use 5 A cable lock connector.
(Thick) Red/yellow wire = +12 V permanent. Use 15 A cable lock connector.
(Thick) Brown wire = ground. Use 15 A cable lock connector.

:)
