I am planning to post new updates, but the present title I feel is bit misleading now, as Tpms installation is done and dusted.

I would really like to title it as. " pocket buring patil's 6R" 😂

Hello everyone!

Headlight upgrade to OE Bixenon + AFS (RHD) 😎
Image

Background:

Finally after much consideration, I upgraded my aftermarket headlights to OE Bixenons with AFS. Main reason I stayed way from this upgrade to this day was the cost of new OE bixeons was unfathomable. Even though I had aftermarket bixenons( Golf style) for past 5 years, with which I was fairly satisfied with output and performance. I was facing some issues with aftermarket headlights.

1. LHD headlights: Strictly speaking they are illegal, but I consciously put the cutoff below so as not to dazzle oncoming traffic.

2. LED Drls: They are powerful and bright, ok as Drls but they are annoyingly bright as sidelights/ parking lights.

3. Degraded performance of aftermarket hid bulbs and ballasts after long usage.

4. Radio frequency interference: Aftermarket ballasts are notorious to cause radio static interference in FM radio reception. It took considerable time for me to figure out this problem.😔 This is the biggest reason which pushed me to upgrade my headlights to OEM Bixenons.

I thoroughly enjoyed my aftermarket headlights, which I used judiciously, I have no regrets using them, they served me well. I do not recommend them but at the same time I would not stop anyone from buying if intended to use fairly. 😁

Reminded myself a saying " The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten."
😂
My heartfelt thanks🤝 to my dear friend Govind Sharma for sourcing most of the parts required from his dealer and shipping them to me.

This retrofit has been done by many across the globe. I am just sharing my experience with you all.Posting lot of images as I believe "A picture is worth a thousand words"🤗

I decided to buy OE bixenons even though OE leds look contemporary and stylish. Bixenons have a benefit of SCL, option to choose bulbs of different colour temperature for HID's and importantly better visibility in rain/ fog.

Parts for Bixenons:
1. Headlights:(RHD)
6R2 941 039A- Left side.
6R2 941 040A- Right side.
Image

2. OE ballasts: 8K0 941 597E (2pcs) bought new from eBay.
Image

3. Bulbs: I choose the following bulbs for my setup.
Image

4. 10 to 14 bixenon wiring adapter for 6R. I bought Kufatec wiring from eBay. The kufatec wiring has BCM connector type and pin number already stamped on wires. So its pretty straightforward to hook up the wires to BCM.
Image

5. Headlight mounting screws:
N10535502 (4 pcs)

6. Dimmer switch:
Image

Parts for AFS:
All the parts required with part numbers.
Image

I decided to make the AFS wiring myself. I bought 0.35mm2&0.5mm2 thickness wires from a Ebay UK seller. The quality of wires is on par with OE wires(made in UK) and reasonably priced. I also bought few original tesa cloth tapes from Ebay.
Image

OEM Fuse 5A for AFS unit.
Image

Wiring and installation:
For unlocking full functionality of OE bixenons, it is prerequisite to have BCM Max installed with proper wiring and adaptation done. It is also desirable to have autolight wiring done with RLS installed. I'm one of the lucky souls to get the BCM Max wiring + autolight wiring from Master Ciclo for TPMS retrofit in the past. :D

I modified the Kufatec 10-14 wiring to include the AFS wires from 14 pin connector.
Image
Image

The Kufatec bixenon adapter wiring is designed for LHD, to make all the lights work properly on RHD, we need to repin the wires in reverse order. I learnt this in a hard way😔 Thanks to Master and dear friend Govind for clarifying this.

For RHD:

I guided the BCM+ AFS wires into the cabin from a rubber grommet in firewall, through which I had routed wires from previous installations.

AFS Wiring and Installation:

I followed the excellent thread by iichel for AFS viewtopic.php?p=509214#p509214

The AFS module I installed it behind the glovebox. In the same place the AFS module is installed in VW Vento Highline plus model with oem led headlights here in India (RHD).

AFS sensor bracket: Got it installed at service centre.
Image

Indian Polo axle beam doesn't come fitted with AFS sensor arm mount, OE bixenons/Led headlights were never offered for our Indian Polo. So I had to get weld a metal with hole on Axle to fix the sensor arm. It isn't perfect like OEM, but I have planned to improvise this further in future.

Axle sensor wires routed from round grommet below the rear seat into the cabin.

The new BCM coding for bixenons was provided by Master himself. I did the AFS sensor basic settings from VCDS and headlights nodded to approve my installation.

Dimmer switch swap:: The below picture shows my transition over years from first retrofit(left switch) to latest retrofit(right switch). :P

Factory alignment and beam pattern

I am very happy with the beam pattern and output. 35w OE output and throw is much better than aftermarket 50w setup I had previously.🙌🔥

New menu appeared in cluster after installing AFS unit.

Travel mode:- When selected, the AFS unit dips the low beam a bit, a feature useful to avoid glaring oncoming traffic when crossing borders from RHD to LHD or vice-versa.

Tail lights upgrade:
Upgraded stock 6R tail lights to OE 6C GTI tail lights(Darkened) RHD. These are made in Spain with top quality finishing.👌

6C0945095N- Right tail light

Fusebox: ( small fuses slots are already full)
Please correct me -- you could router the fuse wire from back of fuse box?
I tried that but ended up with fuse tap option.
So unlike your neat and clean, I have not sort of "altered" car look :D

Front and Rear bumper
Were they just plug and play? or you had to change guide profile 6RG807393B&C, 6RG807863A for rear and also for front <could not find part number>?

Quite a lot of work.
But fantastic. Car looks like it has taken a new birth with new bumper and color!!!!
Happy more miling :)

Thank you ag for your appreciation.🙏

Yes, I always route the power wires from back of the fusebox with fuse, using the empty slots. This way fusebox looks clean. Just need a bit of practice to remove footwell ac vent and fusebox.

About bumpers, I got them fitted from service centre itself. For rear bumper it's just a straight swap. For front bumper, I guess we need a new lock carrier, I am not sure. I got my lock carrier replaced to new type anyway as it was broken. Mudflaps also need to be changed as they are different for new bumpers.

New Mod: New LED DSG gear lever on my 6R...😎

Image
Image

I saw this new led dsg lever in person in a newly launched VW Taigun in India, I immediately liked it, looks elegant and feels premium and better grip too.. I immediately decided to have it in my 6R.😁

I ordered from my usual seller friend from Russia, who also confirmed that it would fit in Polo. I was oblivious to the fact that the electronics of new lever is different from our 6R until I saw a post from dear iichel here: viewtopic.php?p=588521#p588521

Before I got the new led dsg lever in hands, iichel had already figured out the solution.😅viewtopic.php?p=588576#p588576

I decided to install the new lever over the 6C dsg gear indicator panel which I had purchased earlier. Image

To make the installation plug and play, I ordered the required connectors.Image
Image
Terminals required--
000 979 009E-- 15 pcs
000 979 012 E -- 8 pcs
Multicolored wires (0.35mm2) approx 25cm each.

I prepared the wiring according to the scheme prepared by iichel and did the installation. I immediately noticed many problems.. few letters on 6c panel were not illuminated, the illumination of D/S on new lever was not working when engine was running, the relay went crazily buzzing when light switch turned to park lights.😱 I checked the wiring again and again, everything was ok.

After much tormenting my brain and doing some crazy Frankensteining( as iichel would describe,😂) ... I figured out the solution for both 6C panel & new DSG lever problems.🤓

How I tricked ( using rectifier diode 1N4007) the new led dsg lever to work perfectly on our 6R. No error in autoscan.🤭🤗

Work in progress... and finished too🤠

Very happy with this new mod, successfully accomplished.😍😎

Special thanks to iichel...🤝

cool! Am i correct in assuming you used two rectifier didodes for both the D/S wire and the positive?
