I have been running Bridgestone Potenza S001 all round as fitted to my 6c GTI from new. No complaints as I've just changed the fronts to Continentals after almost 17K miles. The Conti's look good and appear to have slightly better rim protection that the Bridgestone's but as for handling and durability I cant say as they've only been fitted yesterday

Can I ask what made you change to continentals?

I have Bridgestone Potenza RE050A’s on the front of my BlueGT and they seem good to me however I’m looking to change the cheap rear tyres the previous owner put on the rear but unsure whether to match to the fronts as have read bad reviews on the potenzas?

This site provides some good info on testing of a range of tyres both summer and winter, not just performance tyres. Bear in mind that different tyre sizes of the same make have different performances.

I was happy to stay with the Bridgestone's but found a number of tyre outlets had them marked as out of stock. I've used Continental's a number of times before and found them to be good all rounders. I don't think there is much to choose between the big 4 or 5 premium tyre manufacturers. My Wife has and Alfa 159 Ti with ludicrous big 19 inch alloys as standard and Ive found Uniroyal Rainsport 3s to be as good as anything else on her car.

Oh right fair enough, so what continentals have you gone for? The conti 6’s?

Hello All,

So after reading reviews etc for hours and hours I have finally made a decision and have opted for Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s, I will be putting a pair on the rear to start with to get rid of a really cheap pair of tyres and hopefully as soon as my front Bridgestones wear out I will put a pair on there too.

Good choice, 'A' rated for grip/braking in the wet and 'A' for noise, not so good for economy but always a compromise somewhere.

Michelin PS4 and PS4S are getting pretty good reviews on other VW forums (golfgtiforum.co.uk and vwroc.com) where the majority of members have performance VW’s - GTI’s and R’s. I don’t think the PS4S is available in 17” though.

You are absolutely correct, The Michelin PS4S are not available in 17”, only 19” and 20” I think. I have gone for the PS4’s and get then fitted to the rear of my car on Wednesday.

Yes just checked not sure why I thought they were Conti 2's but they are 6's - result. I've not done many miles as yet but I'm impressed so far - road noise seems better than the previous Bridgestones. If they can match the Bridgestone's for longevity (17k miles) I'll be very happy
