I'm after some new speakers for the front doors of my polo GTi.
I believe the size i need are 17cm. I would like some which are around 170w and not too expensive.
Please feel free to post your suggestions.

define "not too expensive"
Alpine 176A - 100 quid if you look hard on the net (alphacaraudio are good)
darn good for the money

I'm looking at spending £80 or less. Got tax due at end of September and wanting to do a couple of other mods.

hmmm, difficult then - I'd go to halfords

and have a listen - they can do some good offers. don't know what to recommend for under 80 quid.
won't you just want to change em in a bit anyway?
p.s. definitely get component speakers!

Whats the major advantage btw...
ALPINE-SPS-171A -
http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/pro ... ts_id+2848
and
Product Code: ALPINE-SPR-176A -
http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/pro ... cts_id+519
Whats better for the extra £10?
I personally prefere the look of the cheaper ones.

they're type S as opposed to type R - so they lack in quality compared to the type R's

Ah ha. I understand.
I guess type r and type s are just Alpine classifications for their speakers?

O but will they fit? Apparently they are quite deep.
What kind of work would I have to do to make em fit? Do you have them?
Doin a price hunt... so far £99 is best.

Did you need to buy any adapters? Or did you have to take the door cards apart?
Or was it a simple pop it into place jobby? Where did you put the tweeters?
Alpha Car Audio - £90 Nice with £10 P&P.
I just wanna know how easy life will be once they arrive at my door.

piece of p1ss - put tweeters in the hole the current ones are in (and the tweeter) and the type R's woofers just fit into the existing hole.

Cool.
Where did ya get yours from? Im gonna continue my bargain hunt.
So basically replace the standard tweeters with the new ones, and replace the speaker with the new one, wiring i guess is just linking up the old wires to the new ones (like with Lexus lights piece of p***)

Mat - Get yourself down to Music World just of West Street - They'll sort out some AudioBahn or Focal ones (they come highly recommended by me and I'm sure Josh will vouch for them as well)
If you want more detailed directions on where they are then drop us a line
