Slight stutter/hesitation followed by immediate engine warning light

Hi,
I have the 1.2 60ps engine in my 2010 Volkswagen polo 6R. Today I had about a 130 mile round trip and before leaving I checked the basics such as engine oil and tyre pressures. Just when I thought it was all over with only 3 miles to go I pulled out of a junction and when I got to third gear the power suddenly stopped and the engine appeared to hesitate or pause but it then picked up again. Immediately after this the engine warning light came on. From there I drive very slowly home keeping the revs low and you wouldn’t have known anything was wrong. The car had a service 9k miles ago/a year and a half ago. Was definitely due a service and I had planned to book one for next week, the oil level was within the limits although nearing the Low end on the dipstick gauge before I left but I figured it would be fine for this journey. Can’t tell you much more information than that other than I was probably at 3500rpm in third gear when the hesitation happened.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what this might be.
Thanks

It might just be a coil or plug failure, or intermittent failure, getting the scanned would throw some light on why it thinks it did this, guessing is not a good plan.

These engines should be getting serviced every 12 months especially at this age.

I have booked it in for a service today as well as a diagnostics for the problem. I had no choice but to take it to work today and you wouldn’t have known anything was wrong. So I’m quite confused but I’ll let you know the outcome in case anyone else has this issue

Just a follow up as I have been reading some horror stories online, would anyone link this to the common timing chain problem that these cars suffer, taking into account the fact that this car already suffered a timing chain jump/slip and the whole thing was replaced just 12k miles ago.

If everything fitted was the latest available version then I'd not think so, but I can understand your concerns as it has happened to you already.

Regular oil changes are essential for cars with chain driven camshafts, probably more so that for cars with belt driven camshafts.
