Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has used a Carista OBD 2 tool on their polo.

For those that do not know what I am talking about here is a link https://caristaapp.com/

Specifically what kind of customisation options are available for a 2018 polo SEL and is it worth it?

Cheers in advance :D

hi mgs_2001

The description of features is available as listed in the link provided. Select your make and model and voilà.

I also read there is a way to permanently disable auto-start / stop (yay) but depends on voltage outputs.
Just not sure what it is for the GTI but once I know more it may be a worthwhile tool for purchase.

I bought it years ago, so I'm not collared with silly charging all the time.

It generally speaking, is a bit slow to catch up with newer cars, I even found that with an August build 2015 6C Polo that specific model had been in production since mid/late 2014 - so I needed to correct them on some fault code descriptions - like an EGR failure on my AC system, which was a spurious current spike on the displacement solenoid coil demand, which VW had a S/W update for but my dealer knew nothing about that, so I just clear that fault when it appears and can correctly decode it using VCDS.

For me Carista was only ever intended to be a cheap and simple scan tool to keep with me when out and about, I keep a dongle in each car armrest storage box.

For some customising, you are the guinea pig, a like Sinclair stuff in the dark past! Carista will endeavour to get it right eventually, but with owner's help/experience - if you are okay with that then why not buy it, I'll stick with using it purely as a scan tool and use VCDS at home to do any adaptions.

Oh yes, but then VAG-COM > VCDS came on the market first and can do a lot more - if that is what you need to do, if not then cheaper scan tools will be okay.

I have been using Carista for some time and have made some modifications, 4 flash on direction indicator, amount of fuel on dash, change of throttle response, changed the image of the initialization of discovery. all using the app and an elm327 adapter. There are other options but I changed

OBDeleven is the way to go,it’s cheaper than vcds ,you don’t need a laptop, you aren’t limited to 3 vins etc no annual fees.
As long as you have a phone android or ios with a good internet connection your away
Any vcds coding can be done on obdeleven also.
