Very low compression within a couple of weeks?

Replaced the valves on my daughter's polo 5 months ago because of low compression and the car was then fine. 2 weeks ago my daughter reported that whilst driving along the car lost power, but then it came back (no engine light on) the other morning she reported that it took a long time to start and after it did it was running roughly and reporting a miss fire on cylinder 1. Compression readings are strange too. Cyl 1 reporting 50, but the other 2 cylinders are 150+ A wet compression test or cyl 1 was no different.
Anyone able to suggest what might have happened here.
Timing chain jump?
Valve burnt out / carbon build up?
