does any1 know if instead of makin an induction kit i would be able to just take the original round air filter out ,and then put a universal air filter on the end of the air intake pipe near the grille? just wondering, but wasnt sure if would work

I can't see why that wouldn't work, but i'm sure someone will tell me otherwise..c'mon tahrey
You do get a nice sound with the cone filter.

i dont know of anything, sorry
thats why i was fired up about the homemade induction thing (yknow, the one with the golf airbox and the k&n) til other concerns got in the way
if you were driving a corsa, sure, but mk3 polos are mostly left in the cold so far as commercial bolt-ons are concerned. you might be able to get a k&n dustbin lid style filter (assuming yours is SPi) that replaces your whole airbox/filter/induction horn, but you'll have to make a bonnet vent for that otherwise you'll but running on hot, stagnant air rather than cold fast-moving stuff.

I'm using the golf/passat airbox with cone filter at the moment and its definatley worth the hassle of sourcing the parts needed.

induction kit is all good!
however, a friend of mine has used to have a mk3 golf but it was an early one which still had a dustbin lid on it! he bought an induction kit for his, all that did was take out the origional filter and bolt on a cone on the end of the pipe that comes off the dustbin lid!
you maybe able to do something like that but u need to be exact with what you order!
as for noise from an induction kit, it is great, i am now waiting for hardhitter to send my exhaust which will hopefully hide the sewing machine noise when you come off the gas!

I did that to my 1.3 CL. All you need to do is block off the hot air system (unplug the vacuum pipe from the airbox and put a screw in the pipe so your engine doesnt loose vacuum. (although on this pic I havent done that yet) Heres what I did:
but imo it was better when I did this. (with the K&N round filter I had back in the dustbin lid obviously)
but again the golf setup would be better.
hey

unplug the vacuum pipe from the airbox and put a screw in the pipe so your engine doesnt loose vacuum.
what kind of problems would that cause then?
cuz for a while i ran the car about with nothing attached to the binlid at all, and the pipe disconnected too, but not blocked off
also recently when i was playing with the brakes, the pipe itself was off for a couple days because it got knocked off the underside of the binlid and that's a bugger to reattach...
hm?
oh and whats that mysterious black box just above the headlamp?
and doug/dan, what and where (and how!) is this?!?

Well if its not blocked off it could potentially suck crap into the engine.
That black box is the s**t alarm i had on it.
