Except i'd be disqualified.... 43cc's too many and far too much reliability! They're talking about doing it in Fiat 126s and Renault 4s for heavens sake
mind you, it'd be a good way to send it past 80,000...
(aha.. capacity over the limit incurs a fine payable to their charity - i'm suspecting a pound per cubic centimetre)
(not sure i'd be mad enough, or be able to find a co-pilot, or the language skills, but damn........ decking it out with some MARK "O" POLO vinyls and making like an italian long-distance trader would be right nifty)
(and all of last years competitors survived, if just barely. i reckon it should be ok with a tent, a big box of canned munch, several spare jerry cans for the 1000 mile "dry" stretch, a 30 litre water tank, at least 2x5L of oil, 2 spare air filters, and one each of oil filter, dizzy cap, leads, set of plugs, fan belt, cam belt, battery, 2 spare shocks, and three extra spare wheels - one on the back, one on the bonnet, and one on the roof rack! - LOTS of tapes/CDRs, a hastily installed pair of sump/gearbox and exhaust guards, two roofracks, plenty of gun-gum and other random gubbins including the fabled torque wrench, oh and a considerably stiffer set of springs at the back.. or is there such a thing as being too prepared?)

Don't think you need to worry quite that much about equipment.. water, petrol, oil, food, air filter, a spare wheel, a decent tool kit and maybe a cam belt if you're feeling particularly unlucky, should be fine

Well, if mine's falling apart by next year's rally, sure, it'd be a great way to bid it farewell before I head off to uni
Otherwise though, I've just checked ebay and there are a load of 999cc minis going for £125ish, many of them in a bad way but with some tax and test left on them, that'd be the absolute perfect kind of car to take on a rally like this If anyone wants to enter though, and needs a co-driver, look no further

absolutely no ground clearance though - you'd have to do a Cooper Sports dakar rally conversion on them and jack the suspension up 60 mil

To be honest, I think hammering the underside over every little bump in the road is all part of the fun The point in the whole thing being that you're driving an old, knackered car that no one's going to care what happens to it Just think, hammering around in a car that's great fun to drive, that you don't care about, in a country where no one else really cares how you drive... sweet
