Fault codes when removing glovebox

I want to remove the glovebox on my 6C Blue GT so that I can fit a glovebox light. This means that I will need to remove the MMI unit and disconnect the airbag switch. If I do not switch on the ignition, is there any risk of causing fault codes? I don’t currently have any means of resetting fault codes, and it would be a pain having to go to the dealer (when they reopen) just for this. Would it be safer to disconnect the battery before I start, or will this also generate error codes which will not reset automatically?

Best practice is to disconnect the battery when doing any work on the electrical installation. But I doubt you'll throw any fault codes.
