I want to decat my polo gti 9n3 2007. Will I get a better sound coming from exhaust? And will it be a sound close or similar to having a downpipe fitted?

Won't admit to knowing anything about the subject but I think a CAT is a legal requirement on cars built from the 90's on wards based on the link below? If its a petrol engine I believe it will fail the emissions test on the MOT without a CAT? I wouldn't recommend interfering with this part of the exhaust system so will let someone else comment further.
