My son has a 2013 Polo Match 1.2TDI, which has front fog lights as standard.
Is it possible to activate these as static cornering lights?
I've tried with Carista using the standard and Beta versions, but neither seem to work.

Its possible, you have to have ESP fitted because cars with traction control have angle sensor. Without this it wont work.

You can buy the sensor ( behind the steering wheel) and retrofit it.

Have a look at the fuse box below the steering wheel.
If fuse 54 is occupied, the fogs are hard-wired. That means it will require re-wiring for static cornering lights.
If fuse 57 is occupied, you can make it work using VCDS. And of course the steering angle sensor is needed (standard with ESP).

Early "same model version" SEAT Ibiza did come with that steering angle sensor fitted under the steering wheel but without ESP, that sensor's only task was to support the static cornering lights.

I'm surprised that same age Polo did not also come with that steering sensor under the steering wheel for that task.

Edit:- to the OP, so it goes without saying that no amount of coding will get these lights to work as static cornering lights unless that car has or gets fitted with a steering angle sensor under the steering wheel, and that item costs around £100.

I don't think that the car has ESP, just traction control. It doesn't say ESP on the off button on the dash.

If he installed the slip ring with angle sensor, and recoded the abs module he should get esp/ traction control in his car.
You get tired after a while from driving this car in a wet if you overtake a bunch. Cause of lack ESP, you get pulled to the sides and tossed. Forbsure its fun, butbis it safe no.
He probably has ESP 8.2 like I do.

I very much doubt it. I think he has a Bosch ABS8.2 or ABS9.0 block and that doesn't allow a simple recoding into ESP8.2i/ESP9.0i.

Thanks, but it sounds a bit more involved than I want to get at the moment. I think we can live without cornering lights for now

When retrofitting the steering angle sensor, which is the best/safer location to tap the wirers for the CAN bus signal?
For example tapping the two wires that go to the OBD2 port a few cm before the connector, is it a good solution or it wont work.
Is there a better location you would recommend?

If your car doesn't have a start/stop system, the easiest location would be the from the instrument cluster.
The CAN wires to the OBD plug are from a different CAN network. You have three:
- Can Diagnostics (to OBD)
- Can Powertrain (engine, ABS, power steering etc)
- Can Comfort (aircon, radio)
- Can Instrument Cluster (only in models with start/stop)

You need the powertrain network for the steering angle sender. Easiest location is the instrument cluster.

My car doesn't have a start/stop system and has 086 BCM.

So should tap the two cables on the T32 plug.
