Afternoon,

Been browsing the forums for the last couple of days looking to find some nice performance/aesthetic mods I can make to my 65 plate Polo BlueGT. Had the car about a year after my old 52 plate kicked the bucket and I love everything about it, but starting to feel the 1.4L Turbo isn't entertaining enough for me anymore.

Completely new to modding cars so you'll have to bear with me if I sound a bit uneducated about the whole thing, but so far for performance I've been looking at:
  • Performance Exhaust
  • Induction kit/cold air intake
  • Potential stage 1 remap
  • Honeycomb front grill
  • Front splitter
And for aesthetics:
  • Painting brake calipers white
  • Wrap the roof black
  • Tinted rear windows
  • Rear polo badge removal
  • Replacing VW badges black
As I said I'm completely new to this so any advice/suggestions/tips or tricks would be very much appreciated and taken on board. Thanks.

Hi,

Looks like you're going to be busy for a while

For the exhaust, I would go resonated , I had mine out back as the drone is really irritating, I just did a backbox removal and refitted a 2nd res to just silance a little, really great and you still get the DSG farts,

For the intake I went with the Pipercross venom, so it's a fully sealed and cold air intake, I wanted the forge but was unsure about heatsoak, I'm really happy with the intake, sound is good, stays cool , fitting was easy, only complaint for my is how it looks on the engine bay, for me it looks cheap, cleaning the filter is easy as well.
However I really wanted the K &N kit for the Ea211 engines , looks cleaner and more OEM but costs more.

For the chip, the APR tunes give a tad more power on the mod to high, but I don't know the longevity, Revo for me is probably a better choice , and run with SPS switched to turn on different tunes, Im going for the APR as I would like that little bit extra!

For the roof wrap if do the 70/80% wrap not to cover the full roof, have a look at some rear diffusers will look nice.

And maybe Carbon fiber mirror caps and badges.

Have you thought about blue or yellow calipers? I have seen them with yellow calipers on a white car and they don't look to bad.

Any handling mods you looking at?

I’d avoid painting the brake calipers white - they’ll look dirty really quickly from brake dust, and be difficult to clean through the closely spaced spokes on the standard BlueGT Montani alloys.

Done some more searching and hunting over the last couple of days and this is what I've come up with so far:
  • Milltek back cat exhaust
  • K&N air filter (for now) before I decide on an intake
  • Blue calipers to match the Blue GT badges
Not looked at any handling mods yet, tempted to go for a maxton splitter at the front to give it that little bit of extra grip and make it a little lower to the ground.

Unfortunately my budget has taken a hit after having to fork out for a new tyre (not cheap) so working on some smaller things for now and not ready just yet to get the exhaust.

Have enquired in to a local wrapper about getting the roof done, it's going to be from the windscreen back, between the top of the doors, and cover the bit of the boot just before it gets to the spoiler.
