Hi all
My engine warning light has come on and I would like to check the codes to see what is wrong.
Have a 2007 Polo (facelift) - anyone recommend a reader for me?

Not sure if I need an OBD2 or can-bus?

Was looking at this - would it do the job?

Thanks all,
Josh

I have one of those,it’s just a very basic code reader.
Read, erase, rescan. Whilst it will give you a starting point you will have to use google to look up the P codes it gives you.

I would suggest investing in OBDeleven its so much more than a code reader, you can scan , code and change so much. Download the app on your phone once you have the OBDeleven dongle.

Thanks - bought one and read the code - Fuel Trim System Lean (Bank 1) - which it seems is a tricky one to resolve!

Cheers,
Josh

Just in case you have not worked this out, "(bank 1)" refers to the first or RHS bank of a V configuration engine, your engine being a 3-inline configuration only has one bank of cylinders.

Anyway, if that engine has an EGR system, it could be that the exhaust recycling gases are not getting back into the inlet manifold round about the Throttle Body area due to that final "port" being partially choked with gummy/tarry hot exhaust gases mixed up with oil mist from the oil separator so maybe check/clean that area up first taking care to avoid unplugging the power to the Throttle Body unless you have a means to then re-adapt it.

Edit:- I'd also carefully clean up the MAP sensor.
