Hey guys,

I have a polo 6r,1.2 that's giving some trouble. My cooling fan has been staying on after switching off and draining the battery. As a result I've been disconnecting the battery on evenings to prevent the power drainage but after switching off yesterday I realised the fan went off so decided to leave the battery connected. When I tried starting this morning there was no power, the battery was dead. Its a new battery with the right amperage so I know that's not the issue. I'm positive that nothing was left on in the vehicle that could possibly drain the battery. Is it possible that the fan turned on by itself and drained the battery? What could posibbly be the cause of this?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It could well be that the fan controller has switched the fan back on after you left that car, very annoying!!

Everything else in the car should get sent to sleep after roughly 20 minutes so battery energy lose is mainly protected, any fault(s) will defeat that protection though and lead to the battery getting discharged.

Possible faulty or failed components could be the thermal sensor that controls the engine cooling fan or the fan controller itself which is mounted quite low down I think - or was in earlier versions of Polo. After that is wiring issues.

Thanks for the advice buddy. Someone also told me it could be the radiator fan switch so I'll change this and see what happens!
