Turbo bearing failure

Hi there, I have a 2015 Polo GTi. I have had the car from new and it has never been driven hard although mainly around town driving. It has covered just over 10,000 miles.

Having experienced a strange noise on acceleration, my local garage have diagnosed worn turbo bearings. That in itself is costly enough but they are concerned because that cannot find any reason why the bearings have failed. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know what might have caused the wear?

My garage and I would be very grateful for any advice.

Thanks
Graham

I believe there were one or two instances of forum members with early 6c GTI that had to have their turbos replaced but as far as I’m aware it wasn’t a widespread issue - at least not amongst forum members. I seem to remember there was a revised version of the turbo produced at some point fairly early on in the 6c GTI’s life.

Thanks. It looks as if I have just been unlucky but maybe there was an issues with some models of around 2015. Unfortunately, when you don't use the car a lot there is a risk that problems will occur on low mileage but outside the warranty in terms of years. I am having it re-built so that we will cheaper that a new factory turbo.
