I had a hella spoiler with a clear brake light on my Mk4, a mate who worked in a body shop fitted it for me, he had to drill a hole in the hatch for the cable to go through, and the spoiler was bonded on with that nasty black resin glue!

If you're willing to drill a hole, then it's pretty easy! Does yours have a high-level light anyway?
spraying isn't too bad either - just get the stuff from VW as halfords can be a pain to colour match.
the mastic stuff (for sticking it on) can be bought from most car parts places I believe - otherwise just ask around.
I'm sure you can just run a feed off the existing brake lights, it shouldn't blow any fuses or melt any wires.
