so a billy can mix up has left me with probably a small amount of diesel in 40l of petrol, car started running badly, skiddy car light and another light came on!! stopped, got towed home and am now about to crack into the fuel system and remove all the fuel, any help would be appreciated!!, i have an oil sump pump, but think i may be able to do it with the cars fuel pump by turning ignition on and off??
thanks..x

Buy a new fuel filter and remove the old one, maybe ECP for instance, you could run the pump to speed things up I'd reckon.

It sounds like you have ended up with quite a lot of derv in with the almost now full tank of petrol.

disconnect fuel filter and run the feed pump in the tank by bridging relay or with diagnostic tool

probably not since the pump in the tank will only run very shortly to pressurize the first boost of fuel, and afterwards will run based on the engine's need. if the engine is not running, there is no point in running the relay. I would suggest to switch the ignition off, disconnect filter, run a hose to catch any fuel, drain the tank by bridging the relay, burn or sell the fuel (dispose responsible), replace fuel filter, bleed the new filter, hook it all up, refuel and run the engine.

but to be honest, if it's only a litre or some of diesel on a 40+ litre tank of petrol... i wouldn't bother. just fill it up so that the diesel is diluted in such a way it doesn't matter.

excellent reply thanks, I cant dilute it any more 40 is its capacity! !!, i think its best i remove it all!, will use it in 2 stroke engines!!,
looked at the codes just now, misfire in cylinder3, which is exactly how it felt!, so will look at plugs..

Dont dissolve, empty all diesel. Your fuel system is sensitive to wrong fuel.

so find the relay carrier, it's behind your dash, near the steering column.
on the top row, there are from left to right, three 'big' relays, then a small one with 404 written on it.
that one, the fourth from the left, that's the fuel supply relay. i'm not sure how exactly it works in a TSI but I guess you can just hot-wire it.

thanks, i thought i was doing that at the actual fuel pump under seat?, not sure if i need to connect one of the 2 hoses to filter , or both?

one is probably the feed line, the other the return line. but I'd extract the fuel in the engine bay, since you're also draining the fuel lines from the fuel tank to the engine bay this way.

thanks, the relays!! WTF !, just read that its a massive pain to access, i can deliver 12v to pump direct no problem, i hope ive got polarity correct, would the pump run backwards if not!?, if i install filter then pump , will i be able to collect under bonnett?, and theres 2 lines there also, which one to drain!?! so many questions, I'm missing my 1970s fords!!
