re oiling a k&n filter

i thought that some people may wish to know the procedure for maintaining a k&n filter so here we go
cleaning
you need the special k&n filter cleaner fliud and to remove the filter. spray the fluid all over the element of the filter and saturate it. leave to penetrate for 15-20 minutes then place a hose (or tap) in through the hole which usually goes to the engine and turn the water on (i find warm works best) do not use a pressureised source. repeat as nesesary until filter stops dirtying the water and allow to dry over a warmn radiator or in the sun.
Re-oiling
(we have pics here too
)
take your clean dry filter
then take your filter oil (you did get some filter oil didnt you!)
here im dribbling the oil down the ridge of each pleat. do not add too much as any exess as this may be sucked in by the air flow and coat the air flow sensor (rendering it useless and your wallet will be concideably lighter)
you should end up with a filter looking like this
NOTE: there is some oil left over as i didnt want to suck any through the engine
NOTE2: look at the filter in this pic
can you see how it is white where it shoulkd be red?
this is because the oil is coloured to give the filter its characteristic color.
K&n oil is red
Green filters oil is green
so if you see a green filter for your car that is cheeper than the k&n equivilent then but it as they are constructed identically and in some cases in the same factory
