Hello everyone,

Going to upgrading to stage 3 on my polo gti 2020. Got all the mods in my basket and ready for it but can’t find anywhere in UK that sells stage 3 tuning and DSG tuning. (Only can find in Belgium) anyone know anywhere?

Thanks

Tunability of this (Miller) engine is relatively limited. I know of one example, with mechanical adaptations, reaching 307 HP. Reliable tuning companies here in the Netherlands won't go further then stage 2

@ShockingIce There are a few guys on the VW Polo MK6 AW Owners group on Facebook who have had a stage 3 in England so you could try joining that and asking the same question there.

And @Rosinfield in terms of tuning the 2.0 EA888 GEN3b engine there is massive potential with the correct supporting mods. The new and old Golf GTI's, TCR's, Clubsports, and R's all used versions/iterations of this engine so with a wagner intercooler, better spark plugs, air intake, downpipe, an IS38 turbo swap, and possibly a few other bits I am not aware of then you could push the Polo GTI quite far (above 350bhp) although the drivability of the car will be compromised somewhat.

@Stuart_Rendall I supposed those other cars you mention don't have the Budack Cycle engine used in the Polo GTI. At least the older versions (before 2018) don't.
In my understanding the higher compression of this engine means chiptuning limitations

Those other cars also use the budack cycle being 2019 and 2020 cars.

Chip tuning is very limited because they take data from a few areas where as a full ecu tune will tap into the ecu and modify a large amount of data. If you search VW Polo GTI AW Stage 3 on google or Youtube you will see plenty of results and examples come up for the polo. The Engines in these cars are surprisingly robust.

Me however I will tune mine to ~250bhp add a downpipe and leave it at that because it's my daily and I respect my wallet.

Mine has 250 HP and 420 Nm. This car really can use a chip as stock not much will happen after 5000 rpm. This shows perfectly in the much better 100 -200 time. I did it in 14,5 seconds (stock 20 +)

I'm pretty sure that the Golf GTI and R MK7/7.5 (all years) don't have the EA888 3b engine, they have EA888 3, which doesn't have Budack cycle and doesn't have port injection or the Audi valve lift tech on the inlet side. If the 2019/2020 Golf GTI/R hot the 3b, there would've been an uplift in the official mpg figures.

The Polo GTI+ engine is currently the most powerful official state of tune for EA888 3b, I believe.

I believe there aren't many differences within the engine though. I could be wrong but most parts are carried over with a few differences otherwise why would anyone buy a Golf GTI if the Polo was the same after all.

Also I think i'm correct in saying the budack cycle can be 'turned off' via a tune as it is only active below 20kw.

I do know however you can push these engines, because I have seen many people get figures well over 300bhp and the cars I know of are still running smooth to this day.

Once you get above 380ps you'll need to fill with RON98/99 and have the timing changed to suit.

I think it's much lower than that with this engine. I know APR offer an ecu with ~260 with 99ron or 245 on 97ron. Personally I just wouldn't take a fwd hatch to 300+ if it hasn't already been designed that way from factory. Just struggle with traction.

Oops! Typo, I meant 280ps. You can run the Golf R on RON95 when RON97-99 is unavailable but power reduces to 280ps and timing is adjusted accordingly. 380ps on a 2WD Polo with no independent rear suspension would be nuts.

Have a look at MRC tuning in Banbury. They do stage 3 tuning. I believe someone here has also used them with success.

You mind me asking what company you used to take it to stage 1?

I'm from the Netherlands. It was done here, a very renowned company:
