New Gear Box or not?

Hey Peeps,
VW POLO - 07
AUTOMATIC
So don't know if she needs a new gearbox or not?
When I first turn the car on it's fine and when I put her into reverse it's all good but the moment I put her back into Drive all the lights come on the dashboard "P,R,D1 2 3" and I can't move her, I then have to turn the car off then turn it back on to get her to go and then she works.
Would you say that the gearbox is on the way out or is it something else?
