Piston ring gaps

Hi guys, I’m currently rebuilding an avy and I’m stuck for piston rings gaps. I don’t want to go of the old ones in case they are worn. I ordered standard size and they have come with a smaller gap when placed into the bore. If anybody has the standard ring gaps I would be more than over the moon if you could share the secrets.
