Cam Belt Curiosity

My 2015 1.2 110 TSI is in for a belt change today. The garage (non-VW) has just called to ask if I'd already had it changed & forgotten. Their query based on the fact the belt in situ isn't OEM. Given that I bought it at 8 months old from a VW dealer, I'm baffled. If it had suffered an early failure it would have been well within warranty.

It could that these belts do not have the usual screed of VW Group numbering on them, that is just a guess as I've never noticed anything on my wife's 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110PS cam belt when I check it every year.
I'd not expect that that garage has seen many of these engines in for a belt change yet.
There is an extremely outside chance that your car has a very early engine and that it needed to have its variable timing inlet cam pulley replaced due to failure of the fastenings - but that is an extremely outside chance, what is the engine manufacture date on the cam belt cover?

Much ado about nothing, it was OEM after all.

Dayco apparently. It was only when it was fully removed that the VW stamp was visible.

I see. I'm leaving your topic in place, since I think it's good information. And thank you for sharing.
