Japanese Cross Polo in the UK

Hello,
I've seen a few Japanese import Cross Polo's listed online.
Has anyone had any experience with these?
Are there any parts that are different to the normal Polo that may be difficult to get in the UK?
Are there any insurers that will cover these and are they more expensive? (I've tried Esure and Admiral unsuccessfully)
And finally, has anyone had experience of buying a Japanese import VW in the UK? Anything to look out for, any way of checking the history of the car?
