Hello I have recently got a 2016 polo gti and when you put the plate in on a tax/mot checker online the model name comes up as a polo gti s-a, I have tried other gti’s I know and they don’t come up with the s-a so what does this mean and why’s it there I can see any differences in my car to any other as far as I’m aware

thanks

The 11th character in the VIN code should also indicate where a specific car was built. Some 6r/6c Polos for the UK market were also built at VW’s Pamplona Spain factory (the 6c GTI I owned was). If the 11th character is ‘U’, the car was built at Uitenhage, South Africa, if it’s a ‘Y’ then it was built at Pamplona, Spain.

Will the problem not be that someone, probably the original selling garage/dealer, made a mess of filling in the reg paperwork?
On another issue, I imported a 2000 VW Passat 4Motion and a 2002 VW Polo 1.4 SE bother from Holland, my VW dealership just loved to write/type Import on the top of every worksheet - just to rub it in!

Is your car a DSG ? Could this mean “ semi automatic “ ?
Were the other cars you checked also dsg or manual cars

I think you’re correct - I’ve just looked on the ‘how many left’ website and looked at the mk7 Golf GTi TCR which was built in Germany and was only available with a DSG transmission. It’s listed as ‘Golf GTI TCR S-A’.
So I’d hazard a guess that the OP’s car has DSG transmission, hence the ‘S-A’ designation on the tax / mot checker.
