no pertol out of the petrol tank

Post by imbir »

Hello everybody,

I have this old car 1998 Polo Clasic 1,6 petrol and I drove on very low a lot recently and apparently the some rubbish are blocking the petrol coming to the engine. I know it because, when I disconnect the petrol pipe from the throttle "pump" it does not provide petrol when I try to start the engine. When I splash some petrol through the air entrance it runs a while without problem.
I also started to hear unknown sound at the back near the petrol tank just before I start the engine.

What do you think is the problem and what would be the first place to check,

Thanks in advance for advice!!

Regards

It could be that your fuelpump has died. You can replace the pump once you're 100% sure that it's not working properly. If you drive on an empty tank there might be a chance your fuel filter (or the fuel lines) became clogged with gunk. You can replace the fuel filter and while the filter is unplugged, you can also blow compressed air through the lines via the engine side to free them from any residue. Unplug the fuel lines on the left side of the engine and use a blow nozzle.
