Hi all
I swapped out the oem footwell light for red led's. Now as standard the operation is as follows:
1. Footwells come on when car unlocked.
2. Footwells come on when door is open.
3. Footwells go off when driving or car is locked.
How do i keep them on while driving? I have an Obdeleven device but unable to find any address relating to footwell lights in the bcm. Was anyone able to code this successfully using the oem lights. I know many have retrofitted footwell lights but mine came with it. Any help will be appreciated.

Sorry mate not sure. The car came like that from factory. I am unable to find any coding in obdeleven. There are bytes and bits that have no labels so maybe it's one of them.

If you want then take power from headlight switch - which is on/illuminated -- which could solve your problem.

There is no coding involved in the footwell lights. they behave in the same way as the dome lights when set to the middle position.

A different approach should be taken in case you want ambient lighting on your 6R GTI while driving (at night).

My car didn't come with footwell lights so I installed this kinda kit

I hooked up the power to the light switch so they only turn on when I have my headlights on. The state they were in last time gets saved so I don't have to set the color/brightness every time I turn them on.
I am really happy with them. I placed the signal box above the fuse compartment, under the steering wheel column so it's easily accessible for changing the colors.
I have no visible wires and everything looks as OEM as it gets(unless you poke your head under the seats and see the light strips)

Yes,
leaving the installation of the footwell lights as it is from the factory.
In all the interior switches that have backlighting there is a blue/gray wire (or gray, in the last models), it is a positive signal named '58', ... if you have a factory dimmer it is named '58d'. Use this signal/wire to connect the positive of the new LED Ambient lights to this wire, the negative you must connect it directly to earth/ground/chassis.
If you take the positive signal from the light switch, it must be from the T17/17 wire.
