VW Polo (6C) Pure White

Post by sam7wright »

Hello,

I've recently purchased a 66' plate VW Polo (6C) in Pure White as my daily driver, whilst my wife has our 66' plate Audi A4 Avant B9 S Line for ferrying around our son.

I'm a professional car detailer, so have already completed a full decontamination wash using Autosmart Tardis (Tar and Glue) and Red7 (Iron Fallout). There is lots of over spray on the windscreen and roof, so I'll complete a full clay bar of the car and then a cut and polish to bring out the paint depth.

Completed:
▪︎ Gloss black front and rear VW badges
▪︎ Debadged Polo, TSI and Bluemotion from the boot
▪︎ Removed the rear wiper motor and installed a Kill All Wipers delete kit
▪︎ Upgraded all the interior lights from halogen to LED
▪︎ Upgraded the reverse light and registration plate lights from halogen with Twenty20 Cree LED bulbs
▪︎ Upgraded the DRLs with Twenty20 Cree LED bulbs
▪︎ Replaced standard aerial with a Bee Sting (Stubby)

Pending Changes:
▪︎ Upgrade the dipped and main beam halogen bulbs with Twenty20 Cree LED
▪︎ Replace the front and rear brake discs and pads with Brembo parts
▪︎ Clean and paint the front and rear brake calipers in gloss black

Potential Changes:
▪︎ Replace white wing mirrors with gloss black
▪︎ Vinyl wrap the roof in gloss black

Any other suggestions, would be warmly welcomed

Just purchased a set of 15" BBS wheels, which are in need of a full refurbishment. Corrosion all over the wheels and 2 wheels have flat spots on the rear outer lip but nothing that can't be fixed.

The plan is to take them to Demon Wheels on Walton Summit in Preston for refurbishment and colour change from silver to either gloss black or dark bronze. Finally, wrap them in 195/45 Toyo Proxes TR1 tyres.

Looks good, where did you get the LED bulbs from (interior and exterior)?

What polish and wax do you use? I’ve recently do my pre winter wash using autoglym magma (amazing the amount of contaminates this shows up), clay, autoglm super resin polish, dodo juice light fantastic and then top up with dodo juice red mist detail.

Do you have any recommendations for sanding and polishing some scratches out of the headlights ?

All the exterior bulbs came from Autobulbs Direct.

▪︎ Main and Dipped Beam: H4 Twenty20 LED 12v 60 55w Headlight Bulbs Pair
▪︎ Fog: H8 Twenty20 Cree LED 12v Canbus Foglight Bulb
▪︎ Side Lights and Registration Plate: 501 Twenty20 C3 Canbus LED Assorted Colours
▪︎ Reverse: H21w Twenty20 Elegance Canbus LED

Still need to do the DRLs.

I know it's a known issue but the LED registration plate bulbs are throwing up a canbus error. Yet to find a solution but have a few ideas.

Interior bulbs came from Autobulbs Direct and Amazon.

▪︎ Front Roof and Boot: 501 Twenty20 c3 Canbus LED Assorted Colours
▪︎ Rear Roof and Sun Visor Mirror: 36mm Festoon C5W LED Car Bulbs 6pcs

In regards to detailing the car, I completed a 3 stage cut and polish. There aren't any major scratches that require sanding so it's just a case of methodically working through each stage.

▪︎ Stage 1: Green 3m foam pad with 3m medium cut compound, to remove the majority of imperfections. This will typically leave hazing in the paintwork.
▪︎ Stage 2: Yellow 3m foam pad with 3m Extra Fine compound, to remove the hazing from stage 1 and any final fine imperfections.
▪︎ Stage 3: Blue 3m foam pad with 3m Ultra Fine compound, to give an amazing mirror like finish.

In regards to wax, I have only applied Autosmart Cherry Glaze as a temporary fix. I'll be performing a full decontamination wash again soon and then applying a ceramic coating, for a more "permanent" solution.

I would always recommend using a cutting compound on a microfibre towel and manually hand polishing the headlights first. Before I was comfortable with using the wet sanding and machine polishing method, I used Meguiars Plast-Rx. That works great and is safer but obviously is quite time consuming. Make sure you tape up the paintwork around the headlights to avoid any potential damage.

If you're comfortable and competent with using a machine polisher, then this is undoubtedly a quicker process and in my opinion, gives the best results. You can use the same compound as stated above but using a smaller size pad.

Thanks for the info, I bought this polisher some time ago with a plan to learn the technique but time got away with me ( https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/das6pro- ... n-polisher )

There are a couple of scratches on the headlight which are a bit deeper than the rest, would you recommend sanding with wet and dry first or just go over it a few more times with the plast-rx?

With machine polishing, a byproduct is heat which can and will cause damage. Therefore, you need to move the polisher and avoid staying in the same spot for too long. There's lots to consider from the polisher speed (1 - 6), hand speed, tilting angle, amount of compound on the pad, burning through edges, hazing etc....

My recommendation would be to watch Ammo NYC tutorial videos on YouTube, as Larry, in my opinion is the best detailer in world.

I'd advise you using Plast-Rx first and seeing what results you get from that. Obviously it's your decision and I'm just providing my experience, so can't be held liable for any damage caused.

**Update**

Just purchased and fitted an aftermarket gloss black upper grill off eBay, which is the same as the OEM factory fitted.

£39.99 with free delivery, ordered on Monday evening and delivered at 10:30 today (Wednesday). Aftermarket gloss black badge fits perfectly, as does the new grill.

Only a small update but a huge aesthetic upgrade.

Does anyone know how to change the infotainment screen from blue highlight to red highlight?

I've been working on a 66' plate, 1.2 TSI Bluemotion today and it has red highlights, which matches the back lighting on the interior buttons.

Thanks dude 🤙🏻 I use an AutoSmart yellow scrub pad, which has enough abrasion to remove dirt but not too much that it’ll damage the material. I use it with AutoSmart G101 but you can use any type of APC (All Purpose Cleaner) and then dry with a micro fibre towel.

I’ve installed a pair of OEM gloss black wing mirror covers that had been removed from a pure white GT spec 6C Polo.

I purchased a new black chrome exhaust tip for my wifes’ Audi A4 Avant B9 S Line and refurbished the old corroded one, which has been painted gloss black and installed on my 6C.
