AndyGTi wrote: Wed May 18, 2022 8:31 am After seeing your post I had to check out the configurator and spec a RLine up. It does seem crazy you can touch £30 with this Polo, but that adds about £5,500 of options.

Some you can realistically drop IMHO but as we all know we are all different with different priorities or requirements. I think you could add £2-2,500 for a very good specced car but maybe GTI or another car would be better option.

I’m sure the car will sell but trade in time as mentioned you won’t get full or close to full price back on that chunk of options. Of course the dealer will sell for inflated price telling you what a wonderful car you are getting with loads of options to explain their high price.
The majority of extra cost options are worth very little to a car owner when the time comes to sell but as you’ve said. However, as you’ve said, it’s different story from the dealer’s side of the fence - the forecourt price of a nearly new fully loaded car will certainly reflect the existence of those options - win win for the dealer!
KayakerPaul wrote: Wed May 18, 2022 9:14 am The Dealership would obviously be getting their discount on the car and extras. We had discount on our extras. I forget how much as it`s been so long...
We had a 3month old demo for my son a few years back with Audi - a truly fantastic spec car, and a fab price to match. Sadly now I`m not getting anything like that now. That`s why we decided to ordered one, rather tan look for similar in a dealeship due to the price on nearly new cars.
An interesting video on YouTube from last year by ex Top Gear presenter Rory Reid on the impact on car manufacturers (healthy) profit margins as a result of restricting the supply of new cars. Restricted new vehicle supply + increased customer demand = less need for dealers to discount and increased margins per car and overall.

I think the days of healthy discounts on new cars may soon be a thing of the past - especially if car manufacturers are adopting the Ferrari business model mentioned in the video;

Hi all.
New here.
The 'specced up' Polo R-Line you were commenting on above is reserved to me currently  .

My aim was to factory order one, and the spec I wanted is basically that one. I intend to keep the car past 3 years hence wanting to spec it up to my exact requirements. Sure, some of the optional extras are not a total necessity, but the majority of them (keyless, IQ lights, Pan Roof, Heated Seats) absolutely are to me. When I seen that one with it all in and available quickly I thought I'd reserve.

I have had some doubts creep in, but the car will be ready to go next week so will be sorting that soon.

For those saying about getting a GTI for that price, yes could do, but IMO the GTI is a bit 'boy racer' and not to my tastes at all.
I'd never consider a GTI as a viable option for me and whilst I've checked other cars in that price range (extensively), there's no other cars I actually like as much.

I like Vibrant Violet but my preference would be Ascot Grey or Silver. The colour is the only trade off I'm making, but I still think Violet looks insane in this spec.

In an ideal world, the Style would come with an Auto gearbox, but VW decided not to provide that, which is a bit stupid as the Matrix IQ lights are part of the reason I want this Polo!

Hopefully I won't get a load of flack for owning up to reserving this one  but as someone else mentioned, that's how much this car can cost with those extras. And they're there for those who want them.

The garage have been great, knocked money off, provided servicing, full fuel and delivery so can't fault them.

The important thing is that it’s the ideal spec for you, so that’s what matters - what others might think - including me - isn’t important, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

As for the GTI being ‘a bit boy racer’ - I think quite the opposite, but then we’re all different and have different likes and dislikes and opinions which is a good thing, otherwise life would be boring.

IMHO, VW are masters of understatement with their performance models and visually, I think the sporting cues on the GTI and the performance models of the Golf (GTI, GTI Clubsport, R) are very subtle and not boy racer-ish. Maybe I need to buy a baseball hat and wear it back to front when I drive mine to fit the boy racer image 🤔; thinking about it, maybe not - it wouldn’t suit a GTI owner who’s not too many years from collecting their state pension! 🤣.

Anyway, enjoy your new car when you get it, and be sure to post up some pictures. I really like Vibrant Velvet. It reminds me of a colour (purple velvet) that Ford used on the mk1 Escort 1300E - the luxury model in the escort range back in the 1970’s. I really wanted me of those in that colour but never had one 🙁.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

No flack intended, it was the dealership who priced the car after all.
Luckily you have been given a discount, so that's all that matters, especially at the moment. They could have held out for full price, so well done there.
Enjoy the car when you take delivery and post a few pictures when it arrives.

Well the dealership priced it as per the configurator. It's a brand new car from the factory that was due to be their demo, but they also offered it for sale. I wouldn't have expected them to knock money off when it's the price it would be if I configured it at home.

Good of them, though to discount it for me. :!:

If it’s built on time and arrives at the dealership in August and driving one of the first 72 plate cars is important to you, you could always ask your dealer to delay registering the car until September.

From a purely financial perspective and the value of a 72 plate car versus a 22 plate - if you’re going to be leasing or PCP’ing and intend to hand the car back at the end of the PCP term then IMHO it’s not really that important if it’s registered as a 22 or 72 plate. If you’re buying with the intention of keeping the car for say 4-5 years (or possibly longer), a 72 plate may be worth a few hundred pounds more when the time comes to sell, although IMHO the older the car when you sell it, the difference in value between a 22 and 72 plate becomes less, and condition and service history is likely to be more important to the next buyer than a 72 reg over a 22. At the end of the day, it’ll still be a 2022 registered car.

Considering that the base price for a Polo R-Line 95PS is currently (before options) £21,890 ... I would say that you've got a pretty good deal.

@Swordsy; List price for your car is probably around £24k - can’t say exactly as the Beats upgrade is currently not available to order (presumably because of the semiconductor shortages) so the price of specifying this option isn’t listed on VW’s website. If you’re getting your car for £20.8k then it looks as if you’re getting a discount of around 12-13% which I’d say in the current climate (shortage of new cars and long lead times for many models) is pretty good.

Picking my R Line up on Saturday.
Just need to clarify time with the delaer, but it'll be ready to go. I get to pick my reg too, which is always nice although doubtful there will be one with letters that mean anything to me. :P

Garage is just under 2 hours away, so will be a good opportunity to test the drive on the way back.
Will post some pics up once I get it home although it may need a clean again then!

Got my Polo this morning. Listers Eveshsam were absolutely brilliant, couldn't fault them at all and service was second to none.

Chuffed with it.

Looks good. I really like the colour 😎.

Ensure you always use a safe two bucket wash technique to keep it looking that way, and be sure to stay away from those many hand wash car washing places and auto car washes if you want you paintwork to stay looking good and swirl free. Also, never let the dealer give your car the complementary free service wash when it goes back to the dealership for any servicing, warranty or repair work. The dealership services washes aren’t known as ‘scratch and swirl’ treatments for no reason 🤔.

Car looks very nice indeed. and just the weather for a sunroof
Be gentle if using the ports, as if they are like the transporter`s, they can pop down into the dash, with very little force.
