Diagnostic Issue - steering and windscreen wipers

Hi everyone, hoping someone else has experienced this issue:
I drive an early 2009 1.2 petrol polo. The power steering Is going intermittently; the light comes on the dash and hydraulics fail so the steering is really heavy. When I stop and restart it’s working again and can take anything from 1 to 20 minutes to fail again.
At the same time the ABS light and flashing exclamation mark light come on and it beeps, and the dashboard dials (temperature, petrol, revs, and speed) stop working (also intermittently).
Additionally the windscreen wipers don’t work when the power steering goes off.
The mechanic has had it on the diagnostics machine but said he couldn’t get any clear fault reading. Initially I thought maybe it was the power steering pump, but all the other things suggest something perhaps more computer/sensor/electrics based.
Has anyone else had this experience? Or got any ideas? Thanks
