Indicators

Post by Johntheo1 »

Our 2005 Polo 9N has a nice feature on the above, if you just momentarily press the indicator stalk the indicator will flash for a few seconds, very handy. This feature is not on the 2019 Polo. I have VCDS, is there any setting I can adjust?.

It used to show up at least on earlier cars as "comfort" or "convenience" and another word - if that is of any help, I've forgotten!

My 2016 6c Polo had this feature, so does my 2020 AW Polo. It seems strange if VW deleted it and then re-added it.

Have you owned your car from new? If not, then maybe a previous owner deactivated it?

All my VWs have had the function where, if you press the indicator once, it clicks three times. It’s in the menus, can’t remember the specific setting.

The default flashes are 3 but you can increase this to 5 using Carista or other OBD device

My 2020 Polo has the 3-flash function, I think most cars have it now.

Owned it from new, reading the other posts, it can, maybe, be re configured, presume either from car menus or if not, from VCDS which I have.

Found it after a bit of a search, was searching for the channel under "turn" "indicator" and a few others but "blink" found it, I think it was Eng141649 115854.
It was set to 3 secs even though not doing this for the past 3 years, I set to 5 secs, worked fine, set it back to 3 secs, again worked fine and finally reset it to 5 secs.

I recently got a new Polo 1.0 TSI Life. When using the indicator, the sound it makes reminds me of when children use 2 halves of a coconut shell to mimic the sound horses’ hooves make when trotting by banging them together, much to the amusement of any passengers I have had. It is actually really annoying and I hate how loud it is. Is it something I am stuck with, or can the sound be softened somehow?

Can’t say I’ve noticed the indicators making a horse’s hooves noise in my Polo GTI+. I’ll make a point of specifically listening to them next time I use the car 🙂.

I do remember the indicators in my first VW (a mk4 Golf back in 2002) did seem noticeably louder compared to the car I’d just sold (not a VW) at the time. Maybe all VW indicators are loud. I’ve only owned VW’s since 2002 so don’t know how they compare to the indicators in other brands of modern car.
