HBA retrofit question about the J844/R242 units

Post by Viperslider »

Hiya folks!

I hope to mainly get the attention of Ciclo and iichel for this question as they may have the answer and/or at least find it interesting....

Currently I am retrofitting HBA and am using BCM 7E0 937 090... I am confident with the retrofit but I've hit a mental wall.

Whilst searching, I noticed on this thread viewtopic.php?p=502496#p502496 that 7E0 857 511 G was used instead of 1K8 857 511 E and my question is: Why?

Was it just aesthetics for the frameless mirror or was there something else? I understand the bracket and mounts are different but it's the camera unit specifically I am asking about.

I notice that with the T6 wiring diagram that the J844 also includes R242 but with the Scirocco it's listed in the diagrams as R242 only (no mention of J844).

Am I over-thinking it?

1k8 is PQ35, 7E0 is PQ25 like your T6. Why take a part that doesn't belong on PQ25?

Regarding camera R242/J844, I think it doesn't matter.

Hi iichel, thank you for replying.

I don't have a T6 but let's assume I have :)

As long as functionally there is no difference then that is great. It would seem that the camera choice is more for aesthetics then than any functional differences?

Thanks

I don't know if the 1K8 will work. Some PQ35 modules will work just fine, others will not at all.

Well, I’ve ordered the 1K8 mirror. I am not a fan of the mirror shape but if the camera unit works as needed then I can live with it for now.

Thank you for your time and input

Bit of progress made between jobs....

I will replace the mirror at some point with a square one with black rear to make it look nicer. The mirror is only vanity as I have no rear window and a bulkhead so no rear view LOL

Had some time today so put together some of the required looms to re-wire my lights/light switch/stalks for auto lights and HBA

I'm trying a slightly different approach than what has been achieved on here (due to future planned retrofits), when I get the time between jobs to fit it all and re-programme the BCM etc for the setup, I'll post back with the success/failure results
