Hi just got a new polo r line today. Simple question. Is running cars in still a thing? What’s modern day best practise

The new cars have running in setting built into the ECU, my 1.6 tdi does anyway. What it does it keeps the oil pump on the maximum pressure, I also assume it injects more fuel to warm up the engine (which is why the MPG is always lower in brand new cars) and probably some other things. You can see the running in setting in VCDS and it is set to operate in the first 1000 miles or KM can’t remember. The owners manual only states that you shouldn’t floor it in the first 1000 miles, so drive normally basically 😂

The manufacturer designs, builds and warrants the cars so look in the handbook, there will be their recommendations it's wise to follow them. These days this process is not onerous and according to VW well worth it.
