Currently, this is the part number for my steering wheel: 6R0419091H

I read the brochure for my car, and I found it could have been spec'd with a MFSW.
I've seen these steering wheels on eBay and was wondering if I would be able to simply swap them out without worrying about airbag compatibility or additional wiring.
3C8959537D - Golf
3C8419091BE - Passat
The main reason for incompatibility (I think) was the flat and round bottomed steering wheels having different airbag types. If the wheels are both round bottomed, would the airbags be compatible?
If there is any wiring or coding that needs to be done please let me know

look at both steering wheels, do you think the airbag of your current wheel will fit your new opted wheel?

Doesnt that wheel use the airbag that looks completely different from the wheel/ airbag that came on polo.

Yes but I thought that was pretty obvious by just looking at the shape

Conclusion is: You cant re-use your airbag in combination with MF steering wheel.
You can't modify the cover of airbag, or add additional wires that are needed because your airbag uses completely different mounting system than the one on the MF wheel.
Purchase wheel and airbag, and I also think you will need to run the needed wires.

I replaced that same 6R0 wheel you have with 3C8959538F from Passat. Got it very cheap with Airbag and wiring loom included, and there were plenty of those wheels with airbag available in Finland.
Then followed the retrofit guide written by derfinne here, and added the couple new wires using fast electrical connectors and did the cables myself just buying 0.5mm wire and attached 000979009E pins to the other ends. LIN bus was much easier to take from drivers door connector. It took about two hours to do it all.
Using all the functions of the car is now very pleasant, and also drivability is better with increased grip and feel.
If you don't feel good about adding those wires, I have a leather wheel without buttons available that would work with your current airbag. Part number is 6R0419091Q if you are interested.
