I'm trying to replace my rear shocks, i'v removed the shock from the car and the shocks top nut but the mount itself won't detach from the shock..
It looks like it is seized as there is alot of stuff inside but when i try turning it with force the rubber bung turns around the strut so it looks like it is stuck in there?

Re: Rear shock problem
It sounds like the top mounting is now goosed so just buy a new one or two.

Re: Rear shock problem
Slide the rubber bump stop down the shaft( this is only ever a push fit into the top mount) then remove all the ‘stuff’ as you call it from where you have removed the top nut, hammer the top mount off .

Re: Rear shock problem
Also a good plan, if the bump stops are older than few years, to replace them before they end up breaking up, my VW parts man refers to them as "salts and peppers" that material biodegrades extremely quickly, then the "pip tube" protector assists in the shearing off of the lower section on them - in my experience.
