HID Headlight conversion

Post by zainf7 »

Hi all,

In great need of help with my HID headlight conversion.

Basically, I have a Polo Mk5 6R 2013 and I recently purchased VLAND headlights which use a D2H HID bulb which has replaced the halogen headlight and bulb.

A few weeks ago I installed the headlights but they started flickering. I've switched the bulbs and ballasts around which made no difference. Ended up asking the seller for a new pair of bulbs and ballasts which I installed yesterday to still have the same issue. Could this be an issue with a fuse?

I've tried asking around garages etc and they don't know what the issue is or they won't look at it. It's a pain seeing as the low beams don't work so I can't drive at night.

They usually work fine with ignition on but as soon as I turn the engine on they flicker then turn off completely. I've also seen people mention adding a resistor but a lot also claim it does nothing.

Link to the lights: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133971336972 ... media=COPY

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Hi Zainf7

Kindly post the pictures of your newly bought headlights. Backside pictures of headlights if you can post would be helpful.

Thank you for the pictures.

Do you have VCDS cable? Can you post the VCDS autoscan here. One of the reason for flickering is, the present BCM power supply might not be enough, that's why flickering and going off. There might be other reasons also. You will get better help if you can post a autoscan.

Thank you

Hi Patil,

I don't have a VCDS cable but I did plug my Carista in the other day.

I had 2 error codes for both front low beams. I can check soon if an actual scan is needed.

Thanks.

No, just don't. Dont use low quality hid ballast. You will f.p your electronics in the car. Get your self ones like hylux ( canbus smart, canbus fast, they are proven and they work and do not interfere with canbus or eletrics on your car).

I agree with what is written by Amir. I had good experience with hylux ballasts I used for previous aftermarket bixenons.

It is sometimes possible that these aftermarket ballasts/ bulbs will cause flickering. Try first with good brand bulbs and ballasts and see if flickering disappears.

There are some scenarios where flickering happens and can be fixed with BCM coding.

Better if we have an autoscan.

I got exactly what I was suspecting

That's why having autoscan is best.

Your BCM Max is not happy with those aftermarket ballasts.. very simple.

A BCM coding change in all probabilities will fix the issue. :)

try with carista. Just make a backup of your current coding before changing anything.

I don’t think you can code with Carista.
It’s mainly basic features which can be applied and checked.

What do you use or recommend?
