Just had MOT and lower arm rear bushes need replacing. Garage wants to replace the lower arms and the wishbone suspension brackets(think thats what they are called) which contain the bushes. My question is does all this need replacing or can be just replace the bushes?
Thanks All
Victor

You dont need to change the arms or support brackets ,just the rear bushes only they are cheap to buy just the labour costs involved.

if your inclined you can buy a cheap tool to remove them and refit them look online for this

Is it best to fit new vw bushes or can you get better aftermarket ones?

Original ones don't last very long. Meyle HD are more solid one which should last longer.

There are very common issues of the bolt pulling the threads from the suspension brackets (called consoles), or breaking the bolt, so that's probably why the garage suggested to replace those also. I wouldn't start the job without some plan of fixing those threads. Whether that be replacement consoles or a helicoil repair kit.

Steel bolt in an aluminium threaded console so expect trouble.
