The a in cpta stands for the first engine in the series. Some series have multiple versions like the cbza-cbzc-cbzc etc for different power outputs from the same basic engine, 1.2 Tsi 8v in this case. The 2.0 tsi golf Mk6 R CDL engine has half the alphabet ranging from cdla to at least cdlj in the Polo R WRC.

Some engine families only have 1 version like the cfwa (ea189 1.2 tdi common rail 55kw). This is also the case for your enginr code.

A theoretical cptb engine could have a slightly higher or lower power output or in some cases emission standards. This is usually obtained by alterations in software but could also involve a slightly different turbocharger, manifolds, etc.

The newer version I believe is in this case the czea engine
